CHICAGO - A sweet sweep for the Chicago Cubs in their first-place showdown with the crosstown White Sox.

Ryan Dempster won his ninth straight this season at Wrigley Field and Eric Patterson and Aramis Ramirez homered in the same inning for the Cubs, who beat the White Sox 7-1 to finish off the three-game sweep Sunday night.

MLB: Jeter settles tax case

MLB Derek Jeter settled his case with tax officials, who had said the New York Yankees captain should have paid three years of taxes as a New York state resident.

A New York State official confirmed the settlement, which was first reported in Tuesday’s New York Daily News. The official was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Terms were not disclosed.
